DIRECTOR OF PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
GENERAL PURPOSE
Plans, directs and supervises engineering efforts in support of Project Management such that programs meet or exceed the targeted quality, performance, timing and budgetary objectives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Hires, mentors and develops staff in order to continually improve efficiency, expertise and job satisfaction.
- Ensures engineering activities are planned and managed properly in support of the Project Managers in order to meet targeted objectives.
- Establishes metrics and holds stakeholders accountable to those metrics.
- Works effectively with other departments in order to ensure necessary support and input to projects.
- Establishes and maintains active relationships with customers and sales personnel.
- Communicates program status and any potential issues to VP R&D regularly and maintains clear visibility of status to all departments.
- Identifies potential challenges and quickly formulates alternative courses of action.
- Assists VP R&D in the evaluation of new business opportunities and/or technologies as well as evaluation of potential new projects.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- Proven leadership and mentoring abilities.
- Demonstrated success in managing multiple product development programs; experience as a project manager or team leader.
- Experience in medical device industry with the ability to effectively interact with surgeons and sales personnel.
- Ability to effectively interact and communicate with others both verbally and in written form.
- 4 year degree in engineering or related field.
- Basic knowledge of quality, engineering and manufacturing principles; experience working with external design and/or manufacturing vendors.
- Personal drive to continually meet or exceed objectives.
