SENIOR DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER
GENERAL PURPOSE
Act as lead engineer in the design and development of electromechanical surgical devices through all phases of Design Control by designing component, device and assembly fixtures, interfacing with engineers, technicians, toolmakers, and outside suppliers to assist in prototype fabrication and testing and supporting the team development effort as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as lead engineer in one or more cross-functional teams that are responsible for bringing new products through all phases of the Design Control process based on initial customer requirement
- Provide updates to timelines utilizing Microsoft Project
- Create part, assembly and drawing files utilizing Solid Works 3-D CAD and PDM Works software
- Exercise expertise in mechanical drawing formats per ANSI standards
- Consistently and effectively solve complex design and engineering problems by utilizing well developed design skills and engineering discipline
- Plan and implement acute and/or chronic pre-clinical studies in support of the development
- Attend clinical cases to observe surgeons performing surgery with and without Salient Surgical devices
- Complete successful design of components based on common manufacturing processes such as injection molding, machining, and stamping
- Perform tolerance analyses
- Proactively anticipate issues and plan accordingly in order to complete projects within targeted objectives such as performance, time and budget
- Communicate in writing on a regular basis with all cross-functional team members in a timely and concise manner
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- Basic understanding of electrical / electronic equipment
- Minimum 7 years experience developing products utilizing tools described in essential duties described above
- Minimum 5 years of medical device development experience with thorough understanding of Design History, manufacturing and quality systems
- Prior experience leading the engineering effort for at least one medical device development project under a formal design control process
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or closely related technical field.
