TissueLink Medical Recognizes National Blood Management Awareness Week

Dover, NH, November 7, 2007 - TissueLink Medical Inc., a privately held medical device company, announced today its support for the Society for the Advancement of Blood Management’s (SABM) inaugural Blood Management Awareness Week being held from November 5th through 9th.  Blood Management Awareness Week is an effort to educate patients and healthcare professionals about blood management and blood issues.

Founded in 2001, SABM is an educational organization comprised of medical and scientific practitioners dedicated to improving patient outcomes through optimal blood management and strategies to reduce or avoid blood transfusions.

“Blood management has a critical role during medical and surgical interventions,” states Jonathan H. Waters, M.D., President of the SABM Board of Directors and Medical Director of the University of Pittsburgh Health System’s Perioperative Blood Management program. “Blood transfusions can be necessary and life-saving, but better avoided.”

Steven E. Hill, M.D., SABM Board Member and Medical Director for Duke University’s Center for Blood Conservation, concurs, adding that “blood management is vital to the future of medicine. Decreasing the need for blood transfusions will improve patient outcomes while also reducing costs associated with acquiring blood and the treatment of transfusion-related complications.”

“We applaud SABM’s efforts associated with their inaugural Blood Management Awareness Week” stated Joseph F. Army, TissueLink Medical’s President & CEO. “This is a great way to draw the public’s attention to progressive blood management strategies designed to prevent blood loss and reduce the risk of receiving a blood transfusion.”
